UPDATE : 10 February 2012
Width 600px and height 1024px is the best image size that fit the screen without cropping.

Just need to make sure the pic you use is large enough to fill the screen. You do have the option to crop a pic which is nice. There is a banner ad on the app but you only see it if you are setting a picture for the screen. Best option that I know of at the moment.

Posted by Katie | January 18, 2013, 6:48 pmJust curious about one more thing, can you tell me what size i would need to crop my pictures to to fit the screen perfectly without cropping? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Posted by Jonni | February 9, 2012, 5:37 pm600×1024-pixel resolution (160 dpi density)
Posted by kellyjdrummer | November 30, 2012, 2:32 pmHi Jonni,
Display resolution in Kindle Fire is 1024 x 600. So, if you set image that has width 600px and height 1024px it will fit perfectly without cropping.
Posted by kindlecooltricks | February 9, 2012, 6:00 pmwhat app do we need to for cropping because it won’t change my wallpaper because I can’t crop
Posted by lex | January 10, 2013, 12:20 amThank you so much.
Posted by Jonni | February 9, 2012, 6:14 pmLast question, I promise!
Can you let me know what DPI you are using when you crop? My image is still way too big for the screen. Thanks again.
Posted by Jonni | February 9, 2012, 9:15 pmI am having the same issue. I have pics at 600×1024, 96dpi, but all show up as a zoomed in section when applied.
Posted by Tober | March 20, 2012, 6:13 pmI have the same issue. I crop it, and the original wallpaper is still there with a thumbnail of my origional image, but if I do not crop it, the image is way too zoomed in

Posted by drwrigs | February 15, 2012, 3:57 pmI cant find this app in my kindle store?
Posted by britney ikeard | February 15, 2012, 6:37 pmYou have to type in this URL {http://kindlecooltricks.wordpress.com/2012/02/01/change-kindle-fire-wallpaper-without-rooting} on your Kindle Fire and download it on the kindle fire.
Posted by photography4cats | March 22, 2012, 9:30 pmThank you for this! The default wallpapers on kindle fire are super lame. My only concern is that when I push single image, I don’t have any pictures to choose from. How do I get images to add to my gallery? Thanks for your feedback!
Posted by Hannah | February 18, 2012, 5:00 amEmail the pics to yourself, then the fire gives you the option to upload to “gallery”. thats what I did..works great.
Posted by Jeff | February 20, 2012, 2:35 pmHow do you download the installation file directly into the kindle fire?
Posted by Megan | February 20, 2012, 1:13 amType in {http://kindlecooltricks.wordpress.com/2012/02/01/change-kindle-fire-wallpaper-without-rooting} on the web browser
Posted by photography4cats | March 22, 2012, 9:31 pmThe application worked great. I’ve now put on wallpaper that doesn’t make it difficult to see my icons I have installed as I have also installed go launcher. The Fire is now just like a true android tablet. I went to the internet and found lots of photos pre formatted in the 1024×600 resolution.
Posted by Jeff | February 20, 2012, 2:33 pmWOW!!! This app is amazing. I have been searching everywhere for something that didn’t require rooting because I may need my warranty. You just made my life!!! Thank you so much!!!

Posted by louise | March 12, 2012, 4:25 amNo
Posted by photography4cats | March 22, 2012, 9:31 pmI was able to download the app without a problem, and then found some 600×1024 images, but rather than filling the screen, they display as an approximately 1.5×3 inch image in the middle of the stock Fire images. Is there a trick to getting them to display full screen?
Posted by Janet | March 12, 2012, 7:06 pmMine do the same thing.
Posted by photography4cats | March 22, 2012, 9:32 pmi am in the same predicament, any fixes?
Posted by michael | May 13, 2012, 12:04 amI got a fairly big picture, and said to not crop the image. This seems to work good for me, but I had to try a few images first. It still does not fit perfectly, but at least it shows the subject of the photo.

Posted by jzhzhzhz | March 13, 2012, 6:17 amHey,
Personally I like the defalt wallpapers that the Kindle Fire has, but they are starting to annoy me because they show the same ones allthe time. But I was wondering if once you download this app, is there anyway to return to the defaults for the Amazon Kindle Fire?
Knowing the answer to my question will really help me on deciding to download this app or not.
Thanks.
Posted by Katie | March 14, 2012, 1:19 amYes, all you have to do is disable My Kindle Wallpaper, or uninstall the app.
Posted by photography4cats | March 22, 2012, 9:32 pmHey,
About my other question, I already found the answer. Lol, it’s in the reading.
I have a new question now though… How do you increase the picture size to the one that’s been suggested?
Thanks.
Posted by Katie | March 14, 2012, 3:34 am600×1024-pixel resolution (160 dpi density)
Posted by kellyjdrummer | November 30, 2012, 2:39 pmWorks great, the only problem I’m having know is the Kindle App only works once (which I can live with), to bring it back up I have to reboot … I’ll search the web … Thanks again, it’s about being able to customize and Amazon has no clue
Posted by pfeels | March 24, 2012, 12:42 amI am having a lot of trouble with this. I have images of 600 width and 1024 height but when I try to use them without cropping they are zoomed in but if I try to crop it then it is still zoomed in but now it is also blurry.
I have even tried using your set pictures but they come out extremely zoomed in.
Can you provide help with this?

Posted by Ted | October 23, 2012, 1:39 pmFor some reason it stopped working today, I uninstalled and re-installed, I turn off the kindle and rebooted etc, still not working …
Posted by pfeels | March 29, 2012, 12:12 pmSame here… I’m stuck with that black wallpaper now. Ive uninstaled it and everything… it will go to my pictures but when I pick out a image it wont let me set it as a wallpaper
Posted by Gharp | March 29, 2012, 7:53 pmI concur. Unfortunatly now that Amazon has released Update Version 6.3, it has partially broken your excelent app. It still works fine if you are letting it work in random mode (or what ever you refer to it as when you just point it at “Wallpaper Folder”). However, if you select “Single Image” it will not lock the picture in, it will not ask to crop or full screen anymore, it just takes you back to the settings screen after you select the picture, and it doesn’t set it.
Looking forward to a fix….
Posted by Eric | March 29, 2012, 5:40 pmWow …. this is a rip off … dnt download it! It stopped working in under a month….. now I’m stuck with the black wallpaper…. wow thanks alot?! -_-
Posted by Gharp | March 29, 2012, 7:57 pmGHARP, take a breath, this is normal. Amazon doesn’t want it to work so with every update they throw a monkey wrench at us. There will be a fix or another wallpaper changer software that will come down the pike, they just need time … Very typical of how things work … THE REAL PROBLEM is Amazon, they want us to back their product then why can’t they give us the simple ability to customize the kindle as we want.
If Google comes out with a tablet at the same or lower price and they give you the freedom to customize it any way you seem fit then the Kindle will be a paper weight in a year.
Posted by pfeels | March 29, 2012, 8:14 pmDo u know if this will work for a 6.3 version please let me know. I really want to use this
Posted by sweettwin | August 7, 2012, 4:20 pmWorks Just fine, and i am running on two tablets 6.3.1 & 6.3.0
Posted by Lawrence | August 29, 2012, 12:02 amI found a work around:
On my PC I made a new folder and titled it MyWallpaperFolder. I place my wallpapers in it and then transferred it over to my Kindle Fire.
I then open “My Kindle Wallpaper” app, selected “Wallpaper Image”, selected “Wallpaper Folder”, selected “MyWallpaperFolder”, hit ok and it works …
Posted by pfeels | March 29, 2012, 9:21 pmHi there, I’m new to all of this so I apologize in advance for asking you to simplify what could already be a simple process
. We have a Mac Book Pro and I created a new folder and filled it with wallpapers. Now how do I “transfer” this folder to my KF?
Thank you for your time and any help/advice you can offer.

Posted by Bonnie | April 8, 2012, 10:03 pmYou USB your Fire to your computer. Wait for it to connect. It will say so on the Fire screen and the screen will change. Open your Fire in your computer. Navigate to the “Pictures” folder on the Fire. Drop the contents of the folder you created on your computer. Do Not transfer the folder, but the contents of the folder. Open “Gallery” from “Apps” on your Fire. You pictures will be in the Pictures category.

Posted by Erica | June 21, 2012, 9:19 pmI just read your post, and went to try it out (on my Wife’s Kindle Fire). You’re right… Initially, the pre-loaded wallpaper will show, but if you wait a moment, your personal wallpaper image will replace it. Your image will, once again, remain the first image you see while going in and out of stand-by mode.

Posted by jakethesnakezz | December 11, 2012, 12:28 pmYes, although there is no Kindle 2. I have done my homework. I own two different styles. Fire, Kindle Keyboard. I know exactly what I speak of. There is no Kindle 2. BTW, it’s “of the Kindle Fire, not ‘to’ the Kindle Fire. Just came by to whine? Share some valuable info with us. Enlighten us.
Posted by kellyjdrummer | December 12, 2012, 8:06 amim sorry dude there is to a kindle 2 look it up you will figure that out i would know i have it
Posted by patricia | January 5, 2013, 4:22 amNo, Patricia, there isn’t. The line is, Kindle, Paperwhite, Paperwhite 3G, Keyboard 3G (I own), Fire (I own,) a second generation Fire (gifted to my wife this past Christmas [not a Fire 2],) Fire HD and finally a Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ 4G LTE Wireless. Nope, no Kindle 2. Maybe Amazon forgot to list it.
If there is one, they don’t list it.
Posted by kellyjdrummer | January 5, 2013, 4:22 pmHi, I just received my Kindle Fire today in the mail, and to my dismay, just like all the rest of my kindles, it has the terrible ad wallpaper on the lockscreen, so I’ve immediately looked for an alternative motive, which the Fire holds no option. Google has led me to several open-ended sites that require to root, and I consider myself a very big geek when it comes to technology such as tablets and computers. But I am also a fan of Kindle and what they stand for, thus holds me from wanting to tamper with its hardware. And when I bought this Kindle I told myself that I didn’t get it just to have it another toy where I sit and root and mod it for countless hours, days, or even weeks only to forget about it months later. So this app seems to be my god-sent answer, because its basically the only thing out there that allows me to do this without rooting. And of course, the damn app doesn’t work. I am following everything to what I believe is correctly, even says its set. But every time I lock it only to press it again to test it, I see the same damn kids trying to sell me a laptop if I slide my screen to the left rather than the right. Could I possibly get some help? Is this due to Amazon being the usual Nazi’s that they are towards their programming? Or am I just full of myself and doing it wrong?
Posted by Tyler | October 4, 2012, 8:31 pmWhen I turn my KF on the old wallpaper comes up first and about 10 seconds later changes to my new pic, why is that?

Posted by JRobert | October 19, 2012, 6:16 pmI just got a Kindle Fire and the app isn’t working for me, but it doesn’t say that it isn’t working. The app opens fine, it lets me select which images I want to set as the wallpaper, then I choose the directory and/or single image and I get the “done and set” confirmation message, but the wallpaper remains unchanged. If I go to the lock screen or shutdown the kindle, it is also unchanged. I have the ‘no special offers’ version. Any tips?

Posted by Debbie | November 24, 2012, 10:38 amThis app sadly does not work on Kindle Fire HD, does anyone know one an app that does??
Posted by Hannah | November 25, 2012, 12:58 pmThank you for this APP it rocks. Now I have my little parotlet as my screensaver
Posted by Keith | November 30, 2012, 4:11 amwhy does a wallpaper app need “full internet access”? no thanks. i’m a former ios user and do not like this kindle so far.
Posted by none | November 30, 2012, 2:12 pmI don’t see what the risk could possibly be.
Posted by kellyjdrummer | November 30, 2012, 2:47 pmGreat app, thanks for this. The only problem is that I find it a bit laggy, for instance sometimes the original backgrounds will come through then about 5 seconds after my wallpaper will show up. Did I do something wrong during the installation?
Posted by samantha | December 6, 2012, 7:23 pmThis really works!!!!
Posted by ally | December 9, 2012, 1:01 amDoes anyone know whether this app will be reproduced to work on the HD too, I got it for my birthday yesterday and my mom didn’t know about the adds and they’re really peeing me off. Otherwise is there any other way to get rid of them at this stage?
Posted by Talie | December 9, 2012, 1:12 pmIf you are referring to “ads,” no, there is not. You can use Go Launcher instead of the native Kindle set up. I have been since April and seldom need the native set up to do anything other than actually read a book.
http://golauncher.goforandroid.com/category/go-launcher/
Posted by kellyjdrummer | December 9, 2012, 2:58 pmYou CAN get rid of the ads but you have to pay $15 to Amazon to remove them. They claim the Kindle ‘with Special Offers’ had a discounted price and to make up for that discount you have to pay to get the ads removed. I growled but did it anyway just to be done with them! You have to go to the My Kindle site on Amazon.com. You’ll find what you need there to pay to remove them.
Posted by Pamela | December 28, 2012, 2:00 amwhen I select a picture it says “Cannot find image crop app” and does not set the image??

Posted by Morgan W | December 14, 2012, 3:15 pmI noticed KellyJ up there like to slap people with his OH GREAT WIZDOM so let me clarify for real readers, and noobs alike. TWO VERSIONS OF THE KINDLE FIRE EXIST; 1st Generation, and 2nd Generation. I know its a hard concept to grasp KellyJ…. I’m really annoyed KellyJ likes to bash people for adding in knowledge. People like him hold the world back, because they know it all…. The 2nd generation Kindle Fire is similar in build structure to the Kindle Fire HD. It is classified as the second generation by us developers, and is currently being coded. If you follow any directions for rooting, and or customize recovery partitions for the first generation YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE! The current build of this wallpaper app will not work correctly with the 2nd generation Kindle Fire. Kelly he was right you really should get educated before speaking so strongly. If you want to learn more about customizing, please dont follow his link directly to the Launcher, go to XDA’s forums and read the forum threads. Oh and the “keyboard edition” is non-existent. A keyboard is an accessory.
Posted by TheyDoExist | December 23, 2012, 6:29 amFollow up to the full internet access questions: I see what the risk could be. Your paranoia has merit, but dont fret. The reason it was asking for full internet access is the method it was using to call the wallpaper, by modifying the apk in the system folder and pointing locally through the internet protocol. That is why users saw the “sharing image” part of the process. I began to pull apart the advertisement apk tonight but lost interest. Hopefully this coder will update the app soon. Also those not wanting to root to get apps they want do the following:
Download the apk on another android device ; apk (application)[apk is the extension of android applications]
Backup the application with Astro file manager
Send the apk over to the Kindle Fire – (Dropbox works great for this and plugs into Astro)
Install using the apk
Posted by TheyDoExist | December 23, 2012, 6:37 amSomeone should call KellyJ at 4232272324 and tell him how smart he is for posting his cell phone number in a public profile. They should also ask him to stay out of Photoshop his cartoon self portrait sucks!

Posted by Trish dv8mural | December 30, 2012, 5:10 pmIt’s a very bad thing that Amazon blocked kindle fire 2nd generation, hd, and the newer versions of it. You can´t configure anything! I have the kf 2nd gen and I can´t make that possible. Maybe in the earlier months somebody could find the way to make it happen.

Posted by laeo | January 2, 2013, 9:13 pmI tried to do your wallpaper thing, but it doesn’t work. All it says is done. I turned off my kindle and back on. Same advertisements as usual. I did everything I was supposed to. And when I try to crop, it says I need a crop app to do this. So, I downloaded a crop app and tried it again… Same thing happens. Please answer as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Posted by Rece Quintana | January 3, 2013, 11:45 pmWorked for me. I’ll add a little tip… I didnt have any great image saved on my kindle to chose from and therefore went to google and searched for “kindle fire wall paper 600 x 1024″ and saved the images to my kindle to select from.

Posted by Kyler Blackburn | January 7, 2013, 11:33 pmI did everything it asked me do to and then when I say set wallpaper it says done and set but it doesn’t show up!!!
Posted by mia | January 12, 2013, 2:07 amThese software wallpaper changers do not currently (Jan 14, 2013) work on the new Kindle Fire. Amazon tightened the leash for the second generation kindles. Only rooting works on those right now. Given the date of recent comments you all have newer Kindle Fires, or Fire HDs. It does not work on those either. Be patient, someone will crack it.
Posted by arlo | January 15, 2013, 12:49 amit won’ change the wallpapers what do I do
Posted by Jayden | January 18, 2013, 1:37 amThanks for the app. It works great on the 1st generation kindle fire. My husband and daughter. Have the 2nd generation kindle fire. If you get the app to work on that version we would be thrilled.
Posted by JennJensen | January 18, 2013, 7:54 amSo I have the Kindle Fire Hd. Do you think you can find a way to change the wallpapers on that too because i use to have the Kindle Touch and I got ads on that one too so this ad stuff as my wallpaper is really annoying and boring.
Posted by Ariana | January 24, 2013, 10:48 pmyou need to unsubscribe to the special offers it does cost $15 to remove, if you go to your Amazon account and manage kindle you can unsubscribe.

When I select “Single Image” it opens my “Photos” (it does not show them in the app like above) and when I select one of the photos, I get a quick pop up that says “Sharing Photo” which then goes away and then an option “Would you like to crop this image?” I select yes and I then get “Cannot find Image Crop App”. If I select NO, I do not want to crop, then I get “Done and Set”, but it does not work. I still have the same advertisements. What am I doing wrong??? Thanks for any suggestions.

Posted by Maya | May 5, 2013, 4:04 pmThe internet is fueling the success of music because it can be listened to at any time of the
day and anywhere in the world. Hardware mechanisms used in the
manufacturing of a Wi – Fi internet radio system is less complicated and the point of ergonomics is kept in mind by the
manufactures. You will need an outside antenna to get clear reception on your radio.
